Diagnostic Imaging
The Diagnostic Imaging Department of JSMC, commonly referred to as X-ray or radiology, is one of the primary ancillary service areas in the hospital.
The principle function of this department is to assist physicians and other healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of a patient's disease through the use of radiography, fluoroscopy, radioisotopes, ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, cath lab and cardiographic procedures. We combine the latest technologies with our team of caring healthcare professionals to provide patients with consistent, high-quality diagnostic testing.
Diagnostic Radiology
We offer all general radiography procedures, including general x-rays and fluoroscopy.
Our ultrasound unit is accredited by the American College of Radiology and offers a complete spectrum of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including abdominal, obstetrical and gynecological, breast, prostate, and vascular procedures (veins and arteries of the legs, arms, neck and abdomen).
Echocardiograms and transesophageal echocardiograms (ultrasound studies of the heart) are performed in our cardiographics suite. We use the most updated, state of the art equipment to provide the highest quality images. Electrocardiograms (EKG, to test electrical activity in the heart), Holter monitoring/scanning (portable heart monitoring), and cardio stress testing are also offered.
Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT
Our nuclear medicine unit offers a complete spectrum of nuclear medicine studies, including those of bones, liver, spleen, cardiac and the gastrointestinal tract. The positron emission tomography/computed tomography unit conducts studies for staging and re-staging patients in preparation for cancer treatment.
Spiral CT Scan
JSMC offers the latest technology for these services through the use of spiral full body imaging. This allows for better quality imaging with shorter scan times for our patients, and having two CT scanners, our patients have little to no wait time.  These scanners produce high quality imaging with fast reconstruction time and low radiation dose to our patients.
Cardiac Catheterization/Interventional Radiography
This unit offers heart catheterization procedures as well as angiography/interventional procedures to visualize blood vessels and internal organs.
Breast Imaging
Breast diagnostic services offered at JSMC are ultrasonography and needle localization breast biopsies.
Mammography screening and many other served are offered at the JSMC Medical Imaging Center at our Eagle Way Campus.
Our magnetic resonance imaging unit, accredited by the American College of Radiology, has a state-of-the-art MRI system available Monday thru Friday. The MRI provides exceptionally clear images of the human body and has many beneficial uses for patients, especially those with orthopedic or neurologic problems. Also, because the MRI is an "easy view" system, it is less claustrophobic for patients. The exam room features music and a skylight to create a soothing atmosphere. Most importantly, all MRI images at JSMC are read and interpreted by board-certified radiologists associated with the hospital.
When you prepare to come to the Diagnostic Imaging Department, please bring your physician orders and your insurance card with you. When you arrive at JSMC, proceed directly to the Outpatient Registration desk (marked with a green umbrella) for your completion of paperwork.
