JENNIE STUART SUMMER HEALTH NURSE EXTERN PROGRAM GOALS

The Jennie Stuart Health Summer Nurse Extern Program provides nursing students an opportunity to develop previously learned skills under the supervision of experienced registered nurses. The program lets nursing students experience the nursing profession in the most realistic setting possible (while following legal and safety restrictions for purposes of patient safety and professionalism). The Summer Nurse Extern Program will help strengthen assessment and clinical skills, develop communication and critical thinking skills, expand knowledge of the professional nurses’ role and build confidence in applying the skills learned in the academic environment. Jennie Stuart Health has seen firsthand how the Nurse Extern Program encourages retention of nursing graduates through provision of supplemental practice in the workplace.
